Porridge Week is here! This is one of GUMM’s biggest (and most daunting) fundraisers of the year and we hope you can help us through it.
In Malawi – where much of Mary’s Meals work takes place and where one in four children in education receive our meals – the kids’ daily meal is a mugful of nutrient-rich maize porridge, or likuni phala. To celebrate the amazing impact a simple bowl of porridge can have, every year Mary’s Meals marks World Porridge Day by hosting sponsored breakfasts around the world to raise fund to feed even more children. But for us at GUMM, Porridge Day is just the starting point for a whole Porridge Week from Monday 10th October to Monday 17th October where we only eat porridge, rice and beans for a full seven days. (With the promise of a celebratory meal at the end of it all keeping us going!)
If you want to support us through our week, here’s how you can. We’ll be outside the Fraser Building tomorrow (Monday 10th) between 8am and 4pm celebrating World Porridge Day, so if you pop along to our stall you can buy some porridge to heat you up (it’s the cheapest meal you’ll get in the West End!) and hear a bit more about the work of GUMM and Mary’s Meals. And if you’d like to keep us going as we face our umpteenth plate of rice we have a JustGiving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Mary-s-Meals-University-of-Glasgow1 or you can text GUMM50 + amount to 70070.
We haven’t even begun yet and we’re already 20% of the way towards our target – if you can help us on our way to 100% then thank you!
